Health & Nursing Overview

Health & Nursing

Health & Nursing helps ensure students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Our school nurses are available in every school and work closely with students, families, healthcare providers, school staff, and community partners to support student health, remove barriers to learning, and promote educational success. School nursing is a specialized area of professional practice that supports students' physical, emotional, and developmental well-being while helping them fully participate in school.

In addition to responding to illness and injury, our nurses support students with chronic and specialized healthcare needs, develop individualized health plans, train school staff on student care and health protocols, coordinate with medical providers, and promote wellness throughout our school communities. Their work helps create safe, supportive learning environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed. To learn more about the many responsibilities of Oregon school nurses, we invite you to explore the What Are Oregon's School Nurses Doing? infographic, which highlights the wide range of services nurses provide to support student health and educational success.

Whether you're looking for information about immunizations, medication at school, when to keep your child home, communicable disease guidance, health forms, or the SBHC (School-Based Health Center), this section provides helpful resources for students, families, and staff.
