Child Abuse Prevention

The safety and well-being of every student is a shared responsibility. Sisters School District is committed to creating safe, supportive learning environments where students feel respected, protected, and empowered to seek help when they need it. Through education, prevention, staff training, and strong partnerships with families and community agencies, we work to recognize concerns early and respond appropriately to protect children.

All Sisters School District employees are mandatory reporters under Oregon law and receive training on recognizing, responding to, and reporting suspected child abuse or neglect. When concerns arise, district staff follow established reporting procedures and work closely with the Oregon DHS (Department of Human Services), law enforcement, and community partners to help ensure student safety.

Prevention Through Education

Prevention begins with education. Throughout their school years, students receive age-appropriate instruction that helps them:

• Recognize safe and unsafe situations.
• Develop healthy boundaries and relationships.
• Identify trusted adults they can turn to for help.
• Understand that abuse is never a child's fault.
• Build confidence in speaking up when something doesn't feel right.

By fostering caring relationships and teaching personal safety skills, we strive to create schools where students feel safe, supported, and empowered.

If You Are Concerned About a Child

If you believe a child may be experiencing abuse or neglect, do not ignore your concerns. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911. Otherwise, contact the Oregon Child Abuse Hotline (1-855-503-SAFE / 1-855-503-7233) or speak with your School Principal or School Counselor for guidance.

Early intervention can make a lasting difference in a child's safety, well-being, and future.
