Board Policies

A Board Policy is an official statement adopted by the Sisters School Board that establishes the district's expectations, governance, and direction. Policies guide decision-making and provide the framework for district operations while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Board Policies are developed and reviewed through a collaborative process that may include recommendations from district administrators, legal guidance from the OSBA (Oregon School Boards Association), changes in state or federal law, and input from the School Board. Proposed policies are typically reviewed during public Board meetings before being formally adopted.

Education is constantly evolving. New laws, court decisions, ODE (Oregon Department of Education) guidance, and district priorities may require policies to be updated. The Board regularly reviews policies to ensure they remain current, legally compliant, and aligned with the needs of Sisters School District.

No. Board Policies establish the expectations and direction adopted by the School Board. ARs (Administrative Regulations) provide the detailed procedures developed by district administration for implementing those policies. Many policies have a corresponding Administrative Regulation, while others do not require one.
