Emergency Drills

At Sisters School District, emergency drills are an important part of creating safe, prepared schools. Throughout the school year, students and staff participate in age-appropriate drills that help everyone understand what to do in the event of an emergency. Regular practice builds confidence, reinforces safety procedures, and helps ensure that students and staff can respond calmly and effectively should a real emergency ever occur.

Drills are conducted in accordance with Oregon law and district procedures and are designed to prepare students without creating unnecessary fear or anxiety. Staff members review expectations with students before and after each drill, using each opportunity to reinforce safety, answer questions, and promote a culture of preparedness.

Emergency drills conducted throughout the year may include:

• Fire Evacuation
• Earthquake Response
• Secure/Modified Lockdown
• Full Lockdown
• Shelter in Place
• Evacuation
• Reunification Procedures
• Threat Assessment Exercises

Each drill serves a different purpose, helping students and staff respond appropriately to a variety of situations. While procedures may vary depending on the type of emergency and the age of students involved, every drill is designed with one goal in mind, protecting the safety and well-being of our school community.
