Board Objectives

The Sisters School Board provides the leadership and governance that guide the district's long-term success. Rather than managing the day-to-day operations of schools, the Board focuses on establishing a clear vision, adopting policies, setting strategic priorities, ensuring financial stewardship, and holding the district accountable for student success. Working in partnership with the superintendent, staff, families, and the community, the Board's decisions are guided by the district's mission, vision, core values, and Strategic Plan.

Guided by Our Strategic Plan

Every major decision made by the Board supports the district's Strategic Plan and its three guiding priorities:

• Belong - Ensure every student feels safe, known, and valued.
• Prepare - Equip students with the knowledge, mindsets, and skills to thrive.
• Inspire - Ignite purpose and passion through real-world, personalized learning.

These priorities help ensure that resources, policies, and decisions remain focused on creating meaningful opportunities and positive outcomes for every student.

What the School Board Does

The Board's primary responsibilities include:

• Establishing the district's mission, vision, and long-term goals.
• Adopting district policies that guide operations and decision-making.
• Hiring, supporting, and evaluating the superintendent.
• Adopting and overseeing the district budget and responsible use of public funds.
• Monitoring student achievement, district performance, and progress toward Strategic Plan goals.
• Representing the interests of the community while keeping students at the center of every decision.
• Conducting business in open, transparent public meetings in accordance with Oregon law.

What the School Board Does Not Do

While the Board provides governance and oversight, it does not manage the district's daily operations. Responsibilities such as supervising staff, managing schools, implementing curriculum, responding to individual personnel matters, and overseeing day-to-day district operations are delegated to the superintendent and district administration.

Working with the School Board

The Sisters School Board believes that public schools belong to the community and that informed, engaged citizens strengthen public education. Community members are encouraged to attend Board meetings, provide public comment, share ideas, participate in advisory opportunities, and stay informed about district initiatives. Open communication and community partnership are essential to achieving the district's mission of providing community-connected education that creates belonging, prepares, and inspires.
