Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the way people learn, work, create, and solve problems. From education and healthcare to business, engineering, agriculture, and the skilled trades, AI is becoming an important part of everyday life. At Sisters School District, we believe students should develop an understanding of AI and learn how to use it thoughtfully, responsibly, and ethically as they prepare for college, careers, and the future.

Like calculators, search engines, and the internet before it, AI is a powerful tool, but it is only a tool. While AI can help generate ideas, explain difficult concepts, organize information, support creativity, and improve productivity, it should never replace curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, or genuine learning. We believe the most meaningful education happens when students actively think, question, collaborate, and create, using technology to enhance learning rather than do the learning for them.

As AI continues to evolve, Sisters School District is committed to exploring its educational potential while maintaining high expectations for academic integrity, responsible use, and meaningful student engagement. Our educators continue learning alongside this rapidly changing technology, thoughtfully integrating AI where it enhances teaching and learning while ensuring students continue to develop the communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills that remain essential for success in an AI-powered world.

At Sisters High School, educators have formed collaborative teams to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence in education. These teams are evaluating how AI can best support both teaching and student learning while considering its impact on instruction, assessment, academic integrity, and the development of essential real-world skills. Their work will help guide the district's thoughtful approach as AI continues to evolve. 

District guidance and classroom expectations regarding AI will continue to evolve as the technology matures and best practices emerge. Our goal is not simply to teach students how to use artificial intelligence, but to help them become informed, ethical, and discerning users who understand both its remarkable possibilities and its limitations.
